The annual Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame dinner took place Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Riccardo's Restaurant, in Astoria, Queens. About 40 guests attended the 2008 Induction Ceremony.

Former General Chair and Chair of the Nominating Committee, Ray D’Annolfo (2005), was the Master of Ceremonies.

Bob Vializ, Chair of Metropolitan Swimming, welcomed everyone to the 2008 Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame, and Gil Smith read the Invocation.

Senior Chair Brian Brown introduced the 2008 Metropolitan Champions:
Women's Team Champion – Badger Swim Club
Men's Team Champion – New York Athletic Club
Combined Team Champion – Badger Swim Club
Women's Individual – Emily Kelly, Long Island Aquatic Club
Men's Individual – Jack Wagner, Long Island Aquatic Club

George Rhein, Administrative Vice Chair, presented the winners of the Joe Stetz Memorial Scholarship Awards:
Qing Li (Three Village Swim Club) will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Ryan Terbush (Hauppauge) will also attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Scott Bartleson, Coach Representative, presented the winner of the Coach of the Year Award:
Dragos Coca (La Guardia Aquatic Club) as Age Group Coach of the Year  

George Rhein, Administrative Vice Chair, presented the ConocoPhillips Outstanding Service Award to Michael Morrissey, Official

Bob Vializ presented a Special National Age Group Records Award to Annie Zhu (LGAC) and Lia Neal (AGUA) in recognition for the National Age Group Records they both set this past year.

Inducted in the 2008 Hall of Fame were:

• Elsie Viets-Jennings – Club Administrator, Volunteer - presented by Jacquie Soulier
• Francis X. Gorman – Olympic Diver - presented by Tony Corbisiero (2000) and accepted by Bill Gorman
• Woody Davis – Coach - presented by John Skudin
• Bea Hartigan – Administrator, Coach, Official - presented by Gil Smith
