2007 Hall Of Fame Dinner - Pictures

The annual Metropolitan Swimming Hall of Fame dinner took place Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Riccardo's Restaurant, in Astoria, Queens. About 80 guests attended the 2007 Induction Ceremony.

The Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee, Len Galluzzi (2001), was the Master of Ceremonies.
Mary Fleckenstein, Chair of Metropolitan Swimming, welcomed everyone and introduced the 2007 Metropolitan Champions:
Women's Team Champion – Badger Swim Club
Men's Team Champion – Long Island Aquatic Club
Combined Team Champion - Long Island Aquatic Club
Women's Individual – Alexa Akerfelds, White Plains YWCA Middies
Men's Individual – Thomas Luchsinger, Three Village Swim Club

Paul Simco, Officials Committee Chairman, accompanied by Bea Hartigan and Kris Sawicz, presented the winners of the Joe Stetz Memorial Scholarship Awards:
Kimberly Levine (Marist Swim Club) will attend Cornell University
James Pickel (Flushing YMCA) will attend St. John University

Scott Bartleson, Coach Representative, presented the winners of the Coach of the Year Awards:
Casey Brandy (Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics) as Age Group Coach of the Year
John Collins (Badger Swim Club) as Senior Coach of the Year

Brian Brown, Senior Vice-Chair, presented the winners of the Athlete of the Year Awards:
Roger Dent (Long Island Aquatic Club)
Thomas Luchsinger (Three Village Swim Club)

Paul Simco, Officials Committee Chairman, presented the ConocoPhillips Outstanding Service Award to Paul McClintock, Area Chair Hudson Valley South.

Mary Fleckenstein, accompanied by La Guardia Aquatic Club head coach Dragos Coca, presented a Special National Age Group Records Award to Annie Zhu (LGAC) in recognition for the three 11-12 girls National Age Group Records she set this past year.

Inducted in the 2007 Hall of Fame were:

  • Hazel Barr – Diver, Coach, Administrator – Women’s Swimming Association, Flushing YMCA, US Merchant Marine Academy - presented by Kevin Ryan, Coach of U.S.M.M.A.
  • Tobie Smith - Swimmer – Badger Swim Club - presented by John Collins, Coach of Badger Swim Club

In addition to this year’s Class, the following Inductees were in attendance at the 2007 Hall of Fame Dinner:
